The Japanese-German Business Association (DJW) invites you to share ideas, contacts and information on business related topics at our “DJW Kai” in Frankfurt. Our guests will be welcomed by Consul General Takeshi Kamiyama. The speech will be held in English, but questions can be posed and comments or announcements can be made in Japanese or German as well.
Topic: “Abenomics: Austerity or Economic Growth? – A Japanese Point of View” Since his re-election in 2012, Prime Minister Shinzô Abe has been enforcing his policy of “Abenomics” based on the “three arrows” of fiscal stimuli, monetary easing and structural reforms to encourage foreign as well as private investments, support economic growth and therefore strengthen the competitiveness of Japan. Abe’s policy may have shown some positive effects, but Japan still needs to deal with further (fiscal) tasks like launching a fundamental fiscal consolidation plan as well as vitalizing local economies and reducing the public debt to GDP ratio.
Our speaker will share his expert point of view on the past results and future capabilities of Abenomics and answer questions such as: Which achievements have been reached by Abenomics so far? Have the integrated economic and fiscal reforms shown the favored results? Will they lead Japan out of its long-lasting deflation in a stable way? Which further impacts can be expected for the European and the German economy?
Speaker: Professor Dr. Motoshige Itoh, President, National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA) Professor Motoshige Itoh is Professor of International Economics at the Graduate School of Economics, University of Tokyo.
